Siete hombres sunitas de la minoría árabe de Irán ahwazí fueron detenidos el viernes después de la celebración de las oraciones de tarawih en congregación en el norte de la ciudad de Ahwaz, provincia de Khuzestan de Irán.
Los hombres, que todos se habían convertido del chiismo al Islam sunita, fueron arrestados antes del amanecer por las fuerzas de seguridad el 18 de julio de 2014 y llevados a un lugar desconocido.
Los siete hombres, Khudair Sharhani, Musa Zargani, Hossein Zargani, Mohsen Zargani, Mohammad Zargani, Hamid Zargani y Salem Zargani, no se les ha permitido ponerse en contacto con sus familias y no hay noticias sobre su condición.
Muchos chiitas consideran oraciones tarawih celebradas en congregación como una innovación religiosa, y en los últimos años ha habido informes de las fuerzas de seguridad que intentan evitar que la congregación oraciones tarawih sunitas desde que se celebra en la provincia de Juzestán.
Aunque la mayoría de la población en Khuzestan es chiíta, un gran número se han convertido al Islam sunita en los últimos años, causando alarma en el gobierno iraní chiíta sobre el crecimiento del Islam sunita en el área.
Se ha producido un fuerte incremento en el número de conversos sunitas detenidos en la provincia de Juzestán. Seven Sunni men from Iran's Ahwazi Arab minority were arrested on
Friday after holding congregational Taraweeh prayers in the north of
Ahwaz city, Khuzestan province of Iran.
The men, who had all converted from Shi'ism to Sunni Islam, were arrested before dawn by security forces on 18 July 2014 and taken to an unknown location.
The seven men, Khudair Sharhani, Musa Zargani, Hossein Zargani, Mohsen Zargani, Mohammad Zargani, Hamid Zargani and Salem Zargani, have not been allowed to contact their families and there is no news about their condition.
Many Shias regard Taraweeh prayers held in congregation as a religious innovation, and in recent years there have been reports of security forces attempting to prevent congregational Sunni Taraweeh prayers from being held in the Khuzestan province.
Although the majority of the population in Khuzestan is Shia, a large number have converted to Sunni Islam in recent years, causing alarm in the Shia-led Iranian government about the growth of Sunni Islam in the area.
There has been a sharp increase in the number of Sunni converts arrested in the Khuzestan province. Earlier this year, four Sunni converts were sentenced to imprisonment and compulsory participation in Shia rituals by Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court in Ahwaz, after being accused of “engaging in propaganda against the state’s official religion [Shi'ism].”
