Consejo de una madre a su hija sobre el matrimonio
"‘Auf Ibn Muhallim Ash Shaibâni, uno de los líderes más altamente respetados de la nobleza árabe, durante la yâhiliiah hizo casar a su hija Umm Iâs con Al Hâriz Ibn ‘Amr Al Kindi. Ella estaba lista para tomar la mano de su prometido, cuando su madre Umâmah vino hacia donde ella estaba para aconsejarla, y le dijo:
Oh, hija mía, dejas la casa en la que creciste, y te vas a vivir con un hombre al que no conoces, una compañía que no te es familiar. Sé como una sierva para él y él será como un siervo para tí. Recuerda diez características que serán como un tesoro para tí:
La primera y la segunda son que seas cariñosa con él y estés contenta, que lo escuches y lo obedezcas.
La tercera y la cuarta son que consideres su nariz y sus ojos. No dejes que vea algo feo en ti o que huela otra cosa que no sea buena fragancia de tí.
La quinta y la sexta son que consideres el tiempo en el que duerme y come, ya que el hambre quema y la alteración del sueño causa enojo.
La séptima y octava, que busques su riqueza y que cuides a su familia y subordinados.
El noveno y el décimo, que no reveles jamás ninguno de sus secretos, y nunca desobedezcas ninguna de sus órdenes, porque si revelas alguno de sus secretos nunca te sentirás a salvo de su posible traición, y si lo desobedeces, su corazón se llenará de odio hacia ti.
Cuídate, hija mía, de mostrar alegría ante él cuando se encuentre alterado, y no muestres tristeza cuando él esté feliz, porque lo primero demuestra un juicio pobre, mientras que lo segundo lo hará infeliz.
Demuéstrale tanto honor y respeto como puedas, y concuerda con él tanto como puedas, a fin de que él disfrute de tu compañía y conversación.”.
